Williston is located in the center of the Bakken. Directional drilling has moved North Dakota to the 2nd largest oil producing state in the U.S. and 19th largest in the world.
In June of 2014, North Dakota reach 1 million barrels a day in oil production. "The state's average daily production in 2014 was 1,086,499 bopd (barrels of oil per day), totaling 396.8 million barrels for the year. In 2014, 2.6 trillion cubic feet of natural gas was produced in North Dakota of that 1.9 trillion cubic feet was sold.
In March 2015, North Dakota produced 1,190,583 bopd and 1,521,478 MCF of natural gas with a total of 12,439 wells capable of producing oil. 76% of those wells were in the Bakken-Three Forks.
